Jewelry Care

Some good things to know about how to best take care of your jewelry:

  • Remove jewelry before washing your hands, showering, washing dishes, and going into the pool or ocean
  • Put your jewelry on after applying lotion, perfume, hairspray, and other hair and body products

Silver and brass tarnish over time- don’t worry, this is totally normal! Tarnish is the darkening or discoloration on the surface of the metal over time. Also known as patina, it is a natural occurrence in these metals. This darkening of the metal can enhance the beauty of the piece, but if you don’t dig it there are a few easy ways to clean your jewelry:

  • buff the piece gently with a polishing cloth or
  • soak the piece in warm soapy water and brush gently with an old soft toothbrush, rinse, and dry thoroughly

For a shiny polish you can take the jewelry to your local jeweler. DO NOT use silver cleaning solutions or liquids on pre-oxidized (darkened) jewelry! The Lilette, Layla, and all square cutout earrings have intentional pre-oxidized finishes that will come off with polishing and cleaning solutions.
